Karen Overstreet Simpson

September 5, 1954 - March 10, 2026

Karen Simpson, 71, went to be with the Lord Tuesday March 10, 2026. She was preceded by her son, Wesley Reader; parents, Obediah and Anita Overstreet; brother, Mark Overstreet; and nephews Judson Lowe and Noah Overstreet.

Karen was a graduate of William Fleming High School. She was a member of the School Choir - Director, June C. Webb and Oakland Baptist Youth Choir - Director Ralph Logan and participated with their traveling ministry. As a teenager, she was also in a small folk group with her sisters and friends Jan and Rebecca. Rebecca referred to them as, "Jan, Me and the Overstreet's Three." As an adult, she enjoyed writing songs and performing at the 3rd St. Coffee House where she shared the love of music with friends.

Karen's great love was devoted especially to her only son Wesley who was everything to her. The family of her twin sister Sharon and husband Carl shared a close bond with Karen and her son Wesley. Sharon and Carl's daughter Sarah and son Judson were more like a close sister and brother to Wesley than cousins and Karen was like a second mother to them. Karen enjoyed having a close knit family. Karen's attributes of love, kindness, patience and bravery will be remembered by all who knew her. When she left us we knew in the blink of an eye, she would be with all of her loved ones in Heaven. Those of us still here will carry on with the memories of her until we all meet again.

Surviving are her sisters, Sharon Lowe (Carl), and Denise Woodard (Don); brothers, Alvin Overstreet (Regina), and Tim Overstreet (Melissa); nieces, Sarah Lowe, Caitlin, Kelsey and Olivia Overstreet, Kyleen Overstreet Ferguson, Adrienne Grace Brookman; and nephews, Matthew, Aaron, Jonathan and Stuart Woodard, Brayden and Jonah Overstreet.

The family plans a private grave site service at a later time. Thank you to all the great nurses at Old SW Nursing Home and Infinity Hospice for showing such great love and care.
