Jason Simpson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harrod Brothers Funeral Home & Crematory - Frankfort on Mar. 26, 2026.
Jason William Simpson, 51, of Frankfort, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

Born on October 15, 1974, Jason dedicated his life to music, a passion that began in his teen years while at Western Hills High School.

He first played bass in a band called Grimmace Peace (later known as The Mertons) with his brother, Steve, and friends JP Hanly and Preston Gorman. He played in bars and frat houses in central Kentucky before he was 18 years old. The band recorded multiple albums and later toured all over the Southeast and Midwest.

Over the years, he played in many bands including John King and the Mud River Revival eventually traveling the world as a bassist on tour with Colter Wall. He was happiest on stage no matter the venue, whether it was the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Red Rocks in Colorado, the legendary Troubador in LA, or the Brick Alley in Frankfort, Ky. Music was not just what he did-it was who he was, and through it he formed lasting connections with fellow musicians and fans alike.

Jason was a gentle soul who never met a stranger. He had a natural way of making people feel welcome, and his kindness and easygoing spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Monica Simpson. He is survived by his father, Scott Simpson; his brother, Steve Simpson (Cathy); his niece, Ella Simpson; and his beloved sons, Jackson and Atticus Simpson. He also leaves behind Colter Wall, his band family, and the many musicians and friends he met along his journey.

Jason will be remembered for his love of music, his warm heart, and the countless lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and fans.

In honoring Jason's memory, his family encourages anyone who may be struggling to reach out for help. Take care of one another, hold your loved ones close, and remember that no one is ever truly alone, even in their darkest hours.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later time.
