Every once in a while the LORD blesses this world with somebody that really makes a difference in people's lives. My senior year at Concord nobody believed that I could stay healthy after 3 consecutive dislocated shoulders, but Coach. Not only did he believe in me but he let me play some defense too. I had the best season I've ever had at Concord and I owe a most of it to coach. He pushed me hard through rehab after my surgery the spring before my senior year. But coach really came through for me and my brother David when my Grandpa was killed during that same spring semester. Coach was a rock for me and David and he had that look in his eye that cared and was worried about that the Pate brothers. He had the wisdom that he said came from what "my Daddy used to say" that would make everything okay. I was so messed up that semester that I even started doubting myself, but Coach didn't let me. But the best time I ever had talking to coach was just about a week or so ago when Coach told me that he had made things right with JESUS CHRIST and that he was excited to see his dad in Heaven. Just like John Wayne Coach truly was "THE DUKE"!

I am so sorry for your loss, I only heard about it today, I would have certainly been there to say goodbye. Coach was such a blessing in my life; during my time at Concord and the Rush he believed in me when others did not. He will be deeply missed and never understand the impact he had on my life.
