Laura McDERMOTT Obituary
Laura is survived by her parents, Ellie and Gerry McDermott, of Roanoke; her sister, Meredith Warren; brother-in-law, Parker Warren and infant niece Etta, of Charlotte, N.C.; and her maternal grandmother, Eleanore Michalski, of Whiting, N.J. Laura is also survived by her fiancé, Nate Iler, of Denver.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Roanoke, VA, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. A Reception for family and friends will follow at the Hunting Hills Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Outdoor Mindset, an organization for people with neurological challenges and a love for the outdoors (www.outdoormindset.org), it is run by a close friend of Laura's.

John and I just this morning learned of Laura's death. We are Sara's parents, and we are shocked and saddened beyond expresssion. We hope to find out how to contact you--her parents and fiance--directly and very soon.

Gerry and Elli, I just wanted to let you know that you are daily in my prayers. I was horrified to hear of your tragic loss. Leah, Meredith and Nate are also in my prayers. I did not know Laura, but through a tragic story on the news that day and her fiance, Nate's words...she became everyone's daughter...everyone's best friend...and everyone's sweetheart. Only the next day did I find out how the news would touch me yet again. My neighbor and co-worker was personal friend's of Laura's. Laura had just been in town for her wedding just weeks before. My neighbor/co-worker came to work...her eyes red and swollen from her grief and quietly shared a story of a "angel' that was her friend: Laura. Her smile...her laugh...her kindness...is what friends have shared with those of us that just saw the news and read the paper that day. The words of those who knew her and spent time with her have changed those of us that never had the chance to know your much loved Laura. We share your grief and offer our prayers at this difficult time.

The news of Laura's tragic death came so suddenly last Sunday, touching all of us, so heartbreaking.
Yours, Ellie and Gerry, Nate, and Denver friends, have introduced Laura to those who do not know her. What a tribute and effort made, in spite of your personal loss.
