What a wonderful human being we have lost. Lee was always there to greet vendors like me with a genuine smile and handshake and I will cherish my memories of him. Having learned this sad news just yesterday, I will keep Skip and the Hartman family as well as his extended family of employees in my prayers. Peace be with you, Lee.

My association with Lee Hartman and Sons(the business side) goes all the way back to 1967,'68 and '69 when the company produced the LP albums for the William Fleming High School choir performances at Washington National Cathedral. I still listen to that music(I had it copied to cds). But the greatest collaboration I can remember was trying to hang a new patio door in the Tinker house after Lee and Skip gave me the standard tour of the "towers". What fun that was, and how genuinely unselfish of Lee to allow me to enjoy the experience of their small slice of heaven. I shall miss Lee and hope to see Skip and some of the family on my next trip to Roanoke.

Thank you, Lee, on behalf of the countless students and teachers in the Polk County (FL) public schools touched by your unselfish generosity and your remarkable service. You provided our TV Production Students of the Year with wonderful prizes for two decades and that honor will now be known as the Lee Hartman Student of the Year Award. More importantly, you provided all of us with a role model for how to treat others.
God bless,

No place have we ever felt more welcome than among Lee's vast circle of friends. His generosity and kindness knew no boundaries and those of us that remain to carry on will look to his strengths and convictions to guide us and bind us together in pursuit of a life as rich and meaningful as that which he shared with us all.

Lee was a VERY special person to me, and I cared so much about him (as well as the rest of his family) over the years. He was also a wonderful friend to Hollins University, and he dearly loved his Tinker mountain-top. Skip, my heart goes out to you - you are so lucky to have shared so many good years with him. Bless you, Skip, and Godspeed, Lee. Surely you are now soaring with the eagles as well as the angels...

I am deeply sorry to have learned about Lee. I grew up in Roanoke and my Dad knew Lee well from doing business with him. I always tagged along with my Dad to go to the business with him so I came to know Lee too. Dad bought all our appliances and several stereo systems for family members from Lee. I will always remember him as such a nice man. Dad wouldn't have traded anywhere else. May you rest in peace, Lee.
I extend my deepest sympathy to Lee's family and friends. He was a good man and certainly treated my family well.
