Leon Epperly Obituary

Leon Alden Epperly, Sr., 90, of Salem, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 15, 2007. Mr. Epperly was enlisted in the U.S. Army for five years and served during World War II. He was also a member of Peters Creek Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Essie Epperly; daughter, Nora (Sudie) Epperly; and brother, Alan V. Epperly. His surviving family includes his wife of 64 years, Nora Epperly; sons, Leon A. Epperly, Jr. and wife, Doris, and Garry L. Epperly and wife, Patricia; daughters, Bonnie Hutchinson and husband, Howell, and Linda Huffman and husband, Richard; brother, Troy Epperly; sister, Evelyn Richardson and Marie Scaggs and husband, Emory; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Jack Lowe will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peters Creek Church of the Brethren at 5333 Cove Road in Roanoke, Va. 24019. Online condolences may be made at www.johnmoakey.com. The Epperly family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, 389-5441.
