Lillie Ayers Obituary

Lillie Bragg Ayers, 100, of Bedford, Va., passed away on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Campbell Rest Home. She was born on Monday, August 24, 1908, in Campbell County, Va., a daughter of the late Houston I. Bragg and Lillie Ruth West Bragg. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Hebert Ayers; and a grandson, Brian K. Dooley. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Past President of the Laage Garden Club, Member and Past President of American Outstanding Missionary Circle Leader; Mother of the Year American Legion Auxiliary; past member Bedford Business & Professional Women's Organization; Life Member Nature Camp, Virginia Garden Clubs and was a past Parade Marshall for the Bedford Christmas Parade. Surviving are her four daughters, Joanne Grahame, of Forest, Sue Dick, Patsy Dooley, and Angie Patterson, all of Bedford; two sons, William H. Ayers Jr., of Ashland, and Robert W. Ayers, of Forest; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Main Street United Methodist Church, 212 East Main Street, Bedford, Va. 24523. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2008, at Main Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Hundley and the Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass Jr. officiating. Interment will be a private family service. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 23, 2008, from 1 until 4 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford, Va., and other times at the home of her daughter, Sue Dick, 1659 Shady Knoll Ave., Bedford, Va.
