Lucy S. Simmons

Lucy S. Simmons, 97, of Roanoke, Va., went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ, Thursday, June 3, 2010. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Penn Simmons and Mary Jane (Molly) Morgan Simmons; husbands, Ben Wilson McGuire, W.E. Thomas and Silas Simmons; infant daughter, Iris Jermaine McGuire; sons, Kenneth McGuire and wife, Diane Horsley McGuire and Donald W. McGuire; five sisters, Wealthy S. Perdue, Lura S. Beard, Julia S. McGuire, Lillie S. Ridgway and Jane S. Booth; and two brothers, Taft Simmons and Dave Simmons. Mrs. Simmons worked at the Vinton Weaving Mill for nine years and worked at local hospitals for 32 years as a private duty nurse. She was a member of Vinton Wesleyan Church for over 60 years. She is survived by her two sons, Ronald McGuire and his wife, Eunice Wade McGuire, Dale Thomas and his wife, Vickie Wilson Thomas; daughter-inlaw, Donna Truman McGuire; sister, Esther Simmons Drewry; seven grandchildren, Patresia McGuire, Van and Cindy McGuire, Christy and Frank Prescuitti, Rhonda and David Spangler, Laura and Marty Cash, Randy Holman, and D.L. and Andrea Brown; 11 great-grandchildren, Nathan and Melody Mossor, Jereme and Leah Mossor, Miranda McGuire, Matt Spangler and fiancée, Ashlee, Renee' Spangler and fiance, Travis, Nicole Cash and fiance, Casey, Dustin Cash and friend, Brooklyn, Taylor and Bryce Brown, Victoria and Alexis Holman; three great-greatgrandchildren, Kaitlin, Liberty, and Corbyn Mossor. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel. Pastors Ricardo Rodriguez, John Holland and Dale Reynolds will officiate. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. The family would like to thank Springtree Health and Rehab, especially Mona, Lucy's roommate, Gladys Patram, and Good Samaritan Hospice. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.
