Margaret Thompson Obituary

Margaret "Joyce" Dietsch Thompson

March 9, 1927 - October 13, 2025

Margaret "Joyce" Dietsch Thompson, 98, of Normal, passed away Monday, October 13, 2025, at McLean County Nursing Home.

Joyce was born on March 9, 1927, Shropshire, England, to Albert and Annie (Adams) Bromfield. She met Robert Dietsch while he was stationed in England during WWII. They were married on February 22, 1947. They were married 42 years until his death in 1989. She married Marvin C. Thompson in 1999 and were married until his death in 2015.

She was also preceded in death by her son Michael and two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Stacey.

She is survived by seven children: Chris (Vicky), Steve (Marlisa), Tony (Lynn), Tim (Jane), Larry (Angie), Cathy (John) and Mary (Ed, dear friend), Diane (Greg); twenty-four grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mom was known for her beautiful knitting projects including baby blankets for every child in the family and also Christmas stockings. She was also known for her wonderful sense of humor; and loved hearing a good joke.

When you think of our beautiful Mum, please raise a good cup of Brittish tea!

She was loved by everyone that knew her and will be missed so very much.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

By Mum's request, there was a private graveside service.

We would like to thank Evergreen Place for their wonderful care and love towards our sweet mother and to McLean County Nursing Home. To express condolences online, please visit www.carmodyflynn.com.

I just learned about Joyce. We use to have so much fun when She came to the Dentist. We laughed, she told Me lots of stories, and Joyce always "bragged" about all of Her children and grandchildren. She had such love in Her Heart for each and every one of You. Tim so sorry, She always kept me posted about you I haven´t worked for a couple of years. My Love goes out to you and your whole family, Heaven has received a very special Angel

I´m so sorry to hear of Joyce´s passing. I am honored to have gotten the opportunity to be friends with such a wonderful person. She was such a dignified, determined, witty, and sweet lady. I will miss her and the close conversations we had. My deepest sympathy goes out to her family.

I'm saddened to learn of Aunt Joyce passing. Remembering her dancing with Uncle Bob at Rockaway beach and all the fun that they shared.

I first met Joyce (many years ago) when I taught at Lincoln School in Bloomington. She was in charge of preparing lunch for our students. What a lovely lady! Later on I often saw her and Bob at the ISU Newman Center on Sundays. My condolences to all her family at her passing.

To all of Joyce's family. ,my deepest sympathy. I met Joyce in 1956 when I arrived in Bloomington [ I too was a G.I. Bride from England ] at that time the family and their six little boys were living at the Washburn Greenhouse complex on West Washinton Street, as Bob was in charge there. So many wonderful memories, but one is very special, Joyce and I made a trip home one year to visit family, she joined me after a few days at my brother's home in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire and we all went to Royal Ascot for a day [ Joyce and I all dressed up and wearing our hats ]
Over the many years and in many homes in Bloomington/Normal we enjoyed good times and many cups of tea, so I will drink a few more to honour me dear friend.
