Marie Otey Obituary

Marie Rucker Otey, 90, of Bedford went to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Oakwood Manor, Bedford. She was born in Bedford County on September 28, 1920, a daughter of the late Frank Rucker and Blanche Davis Rucker. Mrs. Otey was the widow of The Honorable Russell J. Otey, former Mayor of the City of Bedford. She was a longtime member of Washington Street Baptist Church. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth R. Green and her brother, Frank Rucker Jr. She is survived by a sister, Alma R. Foster, of Richmond; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at the Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford, with the Rev. Dr. Henry A. Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmont Cemetery.
