Markey McKellar Obituary

Markey Malvern Hill McKellar, 66, of Vinton, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011. Mark was born on January 12, 1945 in Seattle, Wash., a son of the late Commander Robert Morrison McKellar (United States Navy Ret.) and Mary Jane McKellar Kunhardt. Mark was a United States Navy Veteran having served in the Vietnam War, a lifetime learner studying at Lee High University, Belmont Abbey College, Loyola University and was a CPA. Mark was an avid sports fan of baseball, wrestling, rugby, golf and especially football where he participated in these and in later years became a fan of them. He was a loving, caring, and devoted man and a great father to his daughter, Katelin Danielle McKellar. He is also survived by his daughter's mother, Debra McKellar; his daughter's grandmother, Charlotte Haymaker; his sister, Kristine McKellar Poursine Hill of Hollywood, Fla.; brother, David Kunhardt of Va. Beach; two nieces. Lisa Poursine, Esq, of New York/Florida, Ashley Kunhardt of Va. Beach; one nephew, Robert Poursine, of Norman, Okla., and our beloved dachshund, Dottie Marie McKellar. The family wishes to thank the dedicated men and women at the V.A. Medical Center for the compassion and care that was given to Mark. A Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m., on Monday, January 24, 2011, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's Vinton Chapel and one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Monday. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221.
