GREENSBORO- Mary Jo Johnston Stafford, 79, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Steve Martin and the Rev. Paul Riggs. Burial will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one half hour prior to the service.
She was born Dec. 4, 1926, in Mecklenburg Co., to the late Maude Winfree and George O. Johnston Sr. Mrs. Stafford was a very loving, dedicated and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Kernersville and a graduate of Kernersville High School class of 1944. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise J. Cope and Frances Jefferys, two brothers, Horace and Roy Johnston.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, William Joseph Stafford of the home; two daughters, Susan (Greg) Clewis and Sherri (Al) Crittenden, all of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Amy and Wil Clewis and Katie and Michael Crittenden; a brother, George "Buddy" Johnston of Kernersville; two nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Mt. Gur Cemetery, P.O. Box 1506, Kernersville, NC 27285-1506.
