Mac inspired me with his happy attitude despite the health issues he dealt with. He was in my video production class at Cave Spring High School. We did a daily television news show every morning for the students: Mac always added his own special touch to our broadcast. You will be missed by all who knew him. Sending prayers to the family.Pam Weddle Palma.

I witnessed as a young boy in middle school a very young Mac. He did not have it easy by any stretch of the imagination. Yet he would never fail to have a good attitude, be present most every day and be a constant leader in the classroom. I remember him being very serious about politics way back in middle school which was almost unheard of for a 7th or 8th grader and he was proud of what he stood for, yet never once downed anyone else for their feelings or beliefs. The way we ALL should be! We weren´t close but I did admire Mac from a distance in that the hand that life dealt to him was certainly extremely difficult on both he and his family but I can not remember him using his condition as an excuse one time. Rather, he would always do his best to push through whatever the obstacle was despite his condition. I ran into him at Walmart and Carmike cinemas over the years and he certainly seemed to be the same Mac with the same spirit and the heart of a Lion! It shocks and saddens me today to hear this news and as most of us do, makes me wish that I´d taken the time to tell him that I admired the person he was when he was here to hear it. Prayers to all of Mac´s family and friends. We´ve definitely lost one of the good ones but Heaven and the Lord have just gained a true warrior in every sense of the word! God Bless you Mac!

I worked with Mac at Carmike in 2009 and have thought of him often over the years. He was an unforgettable character, and this wonderful obituary commemorates him perfectly.

Rest easy, Mac - I'll always remember that photo of you sitting in the Fruitopia fridge. Thank you for being so kind to me.

I haven't seen Mac for years now but this 'fellow' was someone that brought joy to his Census 2010 co-workers. Mac is someone who I'll always have fond thoughts and memories of with a smile. A loss to his family and friends.

Mac was a great and long-time friend of my son, Thomas Althoff. They shared not only friends, but also experiences and physicians. Each time that I would be at some event with Mac present, I would think "we need to find some time where we can talk with and learn more about Mac." Any length of conversation with him would usually lead to the level of fascinating.

Deepest condolences to all of Mac's family and friends, with a special nod to Chris, his brother.
