Michael Lazzuri Obituary

Michael Joseph Lazzuri

December 5, 1944 - May 27, 2021

Michael Joseph Lazzuri, formerly of Richmond, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at home in Roanoke, Virginia. Glada Mae Bowers Lazzuri, his loving wife of nearly 42 years, passed away in 2010.

Michael was born on December 5, 1944 in Richmond, Virginia, and was the youngest son of Caesar and Anita Lazzuri. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Keeberly and Lorraine Peay, and granddaughter, Giada Lazzuri.

He is survived by daughter, Stacey and husband, Brian Ripple, of Roanoke; son, Chris and wife, Stephanie Lazzuri, of Toano, Virginia; son, Brian and wife, Clare Lazzuri, of Antigonish, Nova Scotia; and daughter, Dana Lazzuri of Roanoke. He was also a beloved "Nonno" of 11 grandchildren, Ben (Zoe) Ripple and Allison Ripple; Nick, Francesca, and Anthony Lazzuri; and Grace, Joe, Mary, Tom, Sam, and Rita Lazzuri. Michael is also survived by his twin brother, Caesar and his wife, Jackie, of Hanover, Virginia; in-laws, Larry and Shirley Bowers of San Antonio, Texas, and Chuck and Brenda Casper of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; numerous nieces and nephews; and too many dear friends to list.

A graduate of St. Benedictine High School and Richmond Polytechnic Institute, Michael served with the Virginia Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court system for 41 years. While raising a family, he found the time to serve his community especially as a coach and umpire for Little League Baseball. He was a parishioner of St. Andrew's Catholic Church where he served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. A Fourth-Degree member of the Knights of Columbus for 36 years, Michael served his brother Knights proudly and faithfully in several capacities, including Past Grand Knight of Roanoke Council #562 and Past State Deputy for Virginia.

A special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice, especially Crystal and Sandy, and personal caregivers, Carol, Nicole, Cindy, and Karen, for their care over the past two months.

Visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Oakey's South Chapel with the first hour for family only. A Wake and Rosary will be held from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday also at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be conducted at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church with visitation at the church from 11 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at St. Andrew's Diocesan Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the VA Knights of Columbus Charities, Inc. (VKCCI) mailed to 116 Meredith Way, Newport News, VA 23606. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.oakeys.com.

I met Mike a few years ago through bridge. He had such a good sense of humor. For the past several weeks we played in his sunroom and his spirit was great. We will miss him and send condolences to his family.

My deepest condolences to the Lazzuri family. I was a classmate of Michael and Caesar all the way through St. Paul´s Elementary school. And I went to St Gertrude´s High School. I remember the twins quiet well going thru school. One of my most memorable event was when our art teacher drew Caesar with colored chalk on the chalkboard.

We met Mike through playing bridge. We enjoyed all times we were together. Starting in the Vinton library moving to the park, garage and finally playing in Mike´s sunroom. Enjoyed every minute. He will be missed.
