Mike blessed us all with a dry and lively wit and the mischievous glint that accompanied it. Yet I never heard him use humor at someone else's expense. In my experience, and I first met him in high school, Mike leaned toward kindness. He was, simply put, a good man. I was deeply fortunate to know him.

Sad news. The last time I saw Mike was during a camping trip on Point Lookout Mountain. It was a few days after PH graduation. One afternoon lightening struck our small cabin near the mountain top during a violent thunder storm while the cabin was being pelted by dime-size hail. Nonetheless, Mike never lost his sense of humor during the ordeal.

Mike is a wonderful example of a true gentleman. I liked to call him the Mayor of Roanoke. My sincere sympathies to Clay and family.

I first got to know Mike when he moved to Roanoke in his early teens. For many years we played basketball together and partied together, including when he was at VMI and I was at W&L. Every person that knew Mike came to like him, which can't be said for many people. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
