Pearl Tatum Obituary

Mrs. Pearl Arelene Lawless Tatum, 78 of Stuart, Va., passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2009, at her home. She was born in Patrick County on September 14, 1930, to the late George Thomas and Sallie McBride Lawless. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tatum was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Tatum Sr.; one daughter, Kathy Tatum; two sisters, Mary Lawless and Effie Foley; and one brother, Raymond Lawless. She was a longtime member of Concord United Methodist Church where she was a volunteer with Millie's Ministries. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and had volunteered at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center. She had been an avid bowler and was active in the following leagues with the Henry County Parks and Recreation: Wednesday morning Seniors, Tuesday morning League, and the Senior Doubles No Tap. Mrs. Tatum is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jason Harris, of Stuart; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard C. Tatum Jr. and Venie, of Woolwine; two grandchildren, Sara and Amber Tatum; two stepgrandchildren, Brian Hall and Dana Spencer; two greatgrandchildren, Dakota Jarrett and Janae Vaughan; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Caleb and Ashley Hall; one sister, Lillian Smart, of Stuart; and one brother, Guy Lawless, of Collinsville. Funeral services for Mrs. Tatum will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastors Mark Clayton and Virgil Soots officiating. Burial will follow in the Tatum Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, January 16, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
