Phyllis Tenser Obituary
June 4, 1928 - February 2, 2022
Phyllis Austin Burch Tenser, 93, of Troutville, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents, John William and Emma Lemon Austin; her brother, Donnie Austin; and her first husband, William W. Burch Sr.
Phyllis grew up in Fincastle, Va., where she had many adventures and lifelong friendships. Her knowledge of the history of Fincastle and Botetourt County was vast. Phyllis was an avid golfer, passionate bridge player, and collector of antiques. She taught art to many in the Botetourt County Schools.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, James H. Tenser; and her children, Bill (Cindy) Burch, John (Debbie) Burch, and Tracy (Donny) Humbert, and Lindy Tenser (George) Filz. Phyllis is also survived by her grandchildren, Geanna (Ron) Kovar, Martin Burch, Jessica Burch, Caleb Burch, Jonathan Burch, Ashby Humbert, Ethan Humbert, Hannah (Jonny) Mook; and great grandchildren, Mercy Burch, Alistair Mook, Aidan Kovar, Grant Kovar, and Kenadi Kovar.
A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family in Fincastle.
A special thanks to the amazing team at Amedysis Hospice, especially Marcie Harless and Debra Shelton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fincastle United Methodist Church, Fincastle Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, or the League for Animal Protection in Fincastle, Va.
