Richard Lawrence Obituary

Richard M. Lawrence, 90, of Roanoke, Virginia, was born in February of 1932 and departed this life peacefully on Saturday, December 10, 2022.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lilian L.B. (Curtis) Nelson and Willie Potter; his wife, BertaMae Lawrence; and sons, Carl and James Lawrence.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Elizabeth Lawrence; son, Richard (Sherry) Lawrence Jr.; grandchildren, Shanette (Liam) Yao, Carl (Sheree) Swain, Shanice Swain, Byron Lawrence, Olivia Lawrence, Shyanne and Sterling Tate Jr., and Janae Jefferson; and eight great-grandchildren!
Richard was born in Roanoke, Va., where he attended Harrison High School. He was a longtime member of the Sheiks Athletic Club and a faithful member of Ebenezer AME Church.
The family would like to thank close and special cousin, Theresia (Chester) Waller, for her care and support for Richard during his illness.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Oakey's North Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.Oakeys.com.
