Richard Robison Obituary

Richard Thomas (Robbie) Robison Sr., 74, of Roanoke, went to join his beloved wife with the Lord on Monday, June 23, 2008. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the VFW. He retired from G.E. with 32 years of service. Robbie was an avid golfer and a local artist. He was also a charter member of Green Ridge Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Margaret T. Robison; mother, Dorothy King Robison; and father, John Robison. He is survived by a son, Richard T. Robison Jr. and special friend, Ronda Schenck; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Dave Sullivan; son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Betsy Robison; grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Sullivan and Shaun Petersen; and numerous cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Dr. J. Michael Palmer officiating. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.

Robbie was family. He lived in the house my father built. His property was part of our original family homestead. He knew all the stories of the Showalter generations who'd lived on that land. He was a close connection for me to my father. I could ask him things that I knew my father would have known and Robbie could often answer. It was a comfort to know that Robbie was next door to Mom when Dad died. He and that special dog brought mom's mail faithfully everyday for nearly 13 years. Then he was a special friend to my son who came to live in mom's house, telling him those family stories. He gave wise advice. We grieve his passing....

It is with great sorrow that we have lost a fellow member at the VFW Men's Auxiliary, Post 1264.
Robbie will live on forever because he has left all with memories that will never be forgotten.
We at the VFW will honor Richard "Robbie" Robison as a good man and patriot who loved country and God. He will be missed by all.

I am so saddened by Mr. Robison's passing. I will always remember his kindness and laughter when I was a teen visiting with Sandy. Sandy, Rick and Kirk, my prayers are with you. I am so sorry I will be out of town during your dad's viewing and funeral. I love you all.
