Richie R. Bennett

Richie R. Bennett, 85, of Roanoke, Va., passed away Sunday, December 27, 2009. Born on June 3, 1924, he was a son of the late Eura Houchins Bennett and Rush Thomas Bennett. He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Bennett; and brothers, Joe Bennett, Eldridge W. Bennett, Edward T. Bennett, and Irvin Bennett. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the European Theater during World War II, and retired from Singer Furniture Company after 46 years service. He is survived by his wife, Catherine B. Bennett; his sons, Allen Bennett and his wife, Rita, and Dean Bennett; a brother, Charles H. Bennett; sisters, Lucy Chisom, Evelyn Sledd, Dorothy Hogan and her husband, George, Virginia Smith, Gladys Burdette and her husband, Mark, Connie Pharr and her husband, Cecil; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The graveside funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Rodger A. Hogan officiating.
