Robert Malachi Kirk, 76, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Roanoke, Va.
Robert (known to many as Bob, Bobby or Mike, depending on how you knew him) was raised in Bluefield, Va. where he began a 30-year career with Norfolk Southern, moving first to Atlanta, Ga. and then to Roanoke, where he retired in 2003.
After his retirement, he volunteered at the O. Winston Link Museum, helping to prepare for its opening. He also enjoyed golfing and watching college football.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Janice Kirk. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Webb Kirk; his daughter, Stacy Kirk of Atlanta, Ga.; his brother, Terry Kirk (Audrey) of Dublin, Va.; his sister, Susie Janutolo (Keith) of Falls Mills, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Robert also shared a close bond with his in-laws and was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Kenneth Webb, and is survived by his mother-in-law, Phyllis Webb of Roanoke, Va.; his brother-in-law, Mark Webb (Gail) of Bluefield, Va; as well as a niece and two nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the team in the Neuro Trauma ICU at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion.
