Ruth Ann Ober Fornes, 71 of Roanoke, Virginia passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 14, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Fornes; her parents, Harry K. Ober and M. Marie Bell; and her brothers, Ken Ober (Linda) and Donnie Ober (Diane). Ruth, or "Tinker" as many knew her, was born in Woodbridge, Virginia and grew up mostly on Bent Mountain in Roanoke. She worked as a Medical Assistant at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem for over 36 years. She is survived by her son, Ronnie Poff of Blacksburg, Virginia and Tonya Poff of Farmville, Virginia. She loved her grandchildren, Andy Poff (Savannah), Bailey Poff (fiancé Annalee Lowman), Hunter Poff (Camryn) and Alexandra Clark. She was also smitten with her great grandsons, Baker and Easton; Ruth is also survived by her brother, Billy Ober (Libby); and many nieces, nephews and greats that she loved as well.

Ruth was one strong lady who lived with chronic illnesses since the age of 42. She was blessed to have very supportive friends and family. The family would like to say a special thank you to her neighbors, Diane and Ronnie Atkins, and Jessie, Brian and Heidi Cato as well as many others in Tinker Creek who were so helpful in assisting her to live independently. The family also wants to express gratitude to her primary care physician for the past fifteen years, Dr. Q Raza. She loved and respected him and the care he provided.

In lieu of flowers, she wanted donations to be made either to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (JDF) or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct 23, 2024 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Oakey's North Chapel.
