Samuel Orth Obituary

Sam Orth of Richmond, Virginia, formerly of Blacksburg, passed from this life on September 13, 2025. He was 37 years old. Sam grew up in Blacksburg. Graduated from Blacksburg High School and later attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond. He was a business manager and "Deliverator" at several pizza businesses in Blacksburg, and pizza and storage businesses in Richmond, Va.; he even had a stint with JC Penney in Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

Sam leaves behind his constant beach trip companion, his partner for Escape-Room date nights, his devoted care provider for the past 2 years and 9 months, and the love of his life, his wife, Salina A. Mejia of Richmond. Sam's love and dedication to Salina was unmatched, unwavering and limitless. They were true partners in every way!

Sam loved and lived for Salina, first and foremost. She has been his rock and he was hers. Sam also loved all his family and friends, his dogs; Jasper, Oliver and June-bug.

Sam was an avid follower of the Richmond Kickers Soccer team and would tell you that they are stinking up the place this year. Sam was an avid video gamer, semi-pro graphic artist, WWE and Wrestle Mania fan, listened to Saint Motel band, and was a talented player of all board games, at which he loved to win. When he won, Sam's unique laugh would fill the room. His laugh was like no other and we will miss it.

Sam was proceeded in death by his mother, Martha Pennington Orth of Blacksburg, Va., hIs uncle and his wife Larry H. and Sarah Pennington of Vandalia, Il., and cousin Timothy J. Madden of Pearland, Texas.

Family who will dearly miss Sam are his dad and stepmom, Donald and Valerie Orth of Pembroke, Va. His sister and her husband, Molly and Aaron Hudson of Helena, Montana, his brother, Benjamin Orth and Ben's partner, Adam DiGiacomo, of Chesterfield, Va. Sam's mother-in-law and her husband, Carla and Mike Decker of Bangor, Maine; Aunts Mary Lynn Pennington, Patricia and husband Marion Bone, all of Vandalia, Il. Julianne and Bill Madden of Helena, Montana, Mary and Arthur Lovering, Lois and Joseph Zitoli, and Christine Orth all of Chicago, Il. Marla and husband Joe Barba, and Monique Apalategui all of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Step-brothers Ryan Turner and wife Maggie of Pembroke, Va, and Chad Turner of Narrows, Va.

Nieces and nephews who will miss Sam's wit, charm and video gaming skills are Kyler Hudson, Cora Lee Hudson, Ricardo Apalategui, Thomas Apalategui, Diego Apalategui, Houston Barba, Susie Barba, and Max Barba, Step-nieces and nephews are Adalyn Bragg-Turner, Nolan Turner, Bodhi Turner and Myla Turner.

Special friends and cousins, some of whom made growing up and getting into mischief all the more fun, are Kenny Thurman and wife Patricia and baby Wylie of Alexandria, Va., Ashley and Jonathan Davis, of Richmond, Va., Bill Brendan and wife Kalen Madden, of Philadelphia, Pa., Alexander Zitoli of Chicago, Il. Dylan Lovering and wife Elyssa Gentile of Denver, Co., Allison and Mike Lovering-Fastert of Wheeling, Il. and Jennee, Tom, and Lee Loflin of Christiansburg, Va., Ray Loflin, wife Michelle and daughter Ellie.

Sam wasn't a fan of funerals and wished to forego his. A game night will be held at a later date for all who loved and cared for Sam. We shall cherish his memory forever, and recall his urging all to "Get a colonoscopy." In lieu of flowers, please support the American Cancer Society by making a memorial gift in Sam's name.

Sam has the kindest heart than anyone I know. His love for his family and friends shined bright like his beautiful laugh. That laugh would make anyone who heard it smile the second he released it into the atmosphere. I wish I had the opportunity to meet his mom and thank her for raising such a kind man . I was honored to tell Sam thank you for taking such good care of our Salina for loving my kids like his own their uncle will always have a special place in their heart Thank you for making me laugh . For our talks For the quiet times. For the love. And I will thank God every night for sending you to our lives because I know it was better because you were in it. ENJOY YOUR ADVENTURE. And Thank you...Thank you..Thank you. You are always in our hearts ILove You
