Susie Sinkler Fickens

1925 - 2007

In the loving open arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ our beloved, Susie Sinkler Fickens, departed this life on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at her residence following a brief illness. She was born on September 7, 1925 to the late William and Mary Haskell-Sinkler in Eutawville, S.C. Susie was preceded in death by her husband, James Fickens; two brothers, Levi and Charlie (Leola) Sinkler; three sisters, Helen, Julie and Modstean Sinkler-Sherrill. Surviving is a son, James Fickens (Linda) of Seattle, Wash.; one grandson, Jervia Fickens of Virginia Beach, Va.; one sister, Mary Sinkler of Eutawville, S.C.; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Sinkler of Roanoke, Va.; two brothers, Ishum (Betty) of Holly Hill, S.C., devoted and cherished brother, William (Marzetta) Sinkler of Salem, Va.; goddaughter, Jocelyn (Clyde) Fraser of Salem, Va.; and a host of nephews, nieces, first cousins, her extended Shiloh church family and special friends that are too numerous to mention. A special thank you to Edna (Charles) Simpson, loving and dedicated caregiver, Richfield Nursing Center, A+ Loving Care, Inc., Teresa Jones, Connie Mundy and Ementress Orr-Tanks, Gentle Shepherd Hospice staff, and physician, Alice J. Inouye, and Robert Carroll at Jubilee House Calls. Visitation and funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church on South Broad Street, Salem on Monday, August 6, 2007 at 11 a.m., and 12 Noon respectively with the Reverend Adrian E. Dowell, Pastor, Shiloh Baptist Church, Salem, Va. Interment in Eutaw Springs, S.C. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church (Scholarship Fund) at 40 East Burwell Street, Salem, VA 24153.
