Theodore von DAMECK Obituary

Theodore (Ted) Charles von Dameck, 75, of Blacksburg, passed away May 11, 2012, at Lewis-Gale Montgomery Hospital in Blacksburg. Ted was born on January 8, 1937 in Manhatten in New York City, NY, and was a son of the late Harry C. and Lois Nobles von Dameck. Ted loved the arts, whether it was canvas, theatre or poetry. He moved to Blacksburg after he retired as Senior Vice President of Piccadilly Cafeterias to go to graduate school at VA Tech to continue his studies in Architecture. Ted was loved by many and will be missed by even more. Ted was a favorite with his grandchildren, playing ball or telling stories. When Chris, his eldest grandson, broke a window with a ball, he cheered him on with glee. He had a favorite name for his eldest granddaughter, calling her Pocahantas, while he was Geronimo. Ben was "Where Moon?", Clint was "Hey Boy" , Kamren would tell him "Papa, you're a Bee" , he would respond "I'm the best". Each grandchild was special and he had a fond remembrance of each.
He was a talented architect, loving all things Frank Lloyd Wright, and architecture that was uniquely different. A very distinguished man who preferred a low profile, some of his work has been seen by millions such as the Pete Marovich Assembly Center on the campus of LSU in Baton Rouge, LA. Ted was a licensed architect in 14 states.
His artwork captured some of this freespirit style, and expressed his emotions in others. He was, and always will be Papa Ted. May his spirit soar, may his canvas be filled in the journey he embarks.
Hearts are shattered with the loss of this great gentle loving man. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Stallings von Dameck, of Blacksburg; four daughters, Tracia von Dameck, of Baton Rouge, La., Sue Doring and husband, Russ, of Fuquay Varina, N.C., Bonnie Keller and husband, Rich, of Manassas, Carla McNeal and husband, Erin, of Riner; and eleven grandchildren, Chris, Ben, Alex, Kamren, Clint, Marti, Erin, Ashton, Dominic, Emily and Riley.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Christ Episcopal Church in Blacksburg at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Scott West and the Rev. Scott Russell officiating, with interment following in the Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Garden in Blacksburg. A reception will follow. Visitation with family and friends will be Friday afternoon, May 18, 2012, at the Villas at Peppers Ferry Clubhouse in Christiansburg from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad or to a charity of your choice.
