Thomas Steven Assaid

Thomas S. Assaid, 99, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed peacefully at home on Saturday, October 29, 2022.

Tommy was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II. While serving in World War II, he was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He was a devout Catholic, a member of Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church and served as an usher for many years. Tommy was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 29 years. He was an active member in the NALC Union 524 and even after retirement, he continued to be involved with the Union.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 73 years, Hannah Francis Assaid; children, Susan Watters, Steven (Tricia) Assaid, David (Jane) Assaid, Mary Kay (John) Sweeney, Diane (Dennis) Neighbors, and Joe (Sonja) Assaid; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Nora Assaid; brothers, Joseph Assaid and Richard Assaid; and sister, Helen Mouawad.

Tommy enjoyed a good long life. He was a kind and caring man who had many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Oakey's South Chapel in Roanoke Va. The Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Oakey's South Chapel with Msgr. Patrick Golden officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrew's Catholic Cemetery.
