On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Vernard P. Martin, 96 years old, surrendered her earthly life at Brooke Grove Rehabilitation and Nursing Center located in Sandy Spring, Md., to join her heavenly father.
She was married to the late Robert Lee Martin of Roanoke, Va. From this union, two daughters were born, Nancy and Diane.
Vernard was preceded in death by her husband and oldest daughter, Nancy.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory one daughter, Diane Martin, Silver Spring, Md.; three granddaughters, and one grandson: Rachel Mills Casey (Thomas), Brooklyn, N.Y., Michelle Mills, Newark, Del., Alvin Mills, Brooklyn N.Y., and Judi Jackson Richards (Ben), London, England; three great-grandchildren, Hannah Casey, Miracle Mills and Autumn Mills, all from New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The wake will be held at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the New Sharon Grove Baptist Church, 3593 Wyatt Farm Rd., Axton, Va. An interment will be held immediately after the service in the New Sharon Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
