Virginia Bryant Harrison
February 14, 1931 - March 21, 2025
Virginia Bryant Harrison, 94, of Daleville, Va., passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025.
She was born on Valentine's Day to Otis and Anne Bryant in Tye River, Va. At age four, Virginia tragically lost her mother to pneumonia. She was raised by her maternal aunt, Eva until she was married.
Virginia graduated from the Virginia Baptist School of Nursing. While in nursing school, she met the love of her life, James E. Harrison. They married and moved to Roanoke where they raised their two children, Deborah and James Jr.
Virginia and Jim were never far apart, assisting him as he served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Andrews Catholic Church, yearly vacations to Myrtle Beach, traveling to visit their children and during Jim's time as Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus, traveling with the Knights' families.
Her passions were her family, gardening, league bowling, baking, needlework and jewelry making. She was a wonderful neighbor, delivering meals and baked goods, offering words of encouragement when needed. She kept a positive outlook on life despite her many challenging experiences.
Virginia lost Jim when she was 60 and went on to be the strong, independent woman we have always known her to be. She lived in and maintained their Christian Avenue home until well into her eighties, before relocating to the Glebe in Daleville, Va. While at the Glebe, she made many new friends including members of the nursing staff who regarded her as a genuine sweetheart. She enjoyed the many activities, fellowship with other residents, and of course her weekly hair appointment. She celebrated her 94th birthday with family and friends. It was a grand celebration, right down to the ice cream cake she was surprised with.
Virginia died weeks later, surrounded by those who loved and cared for her during her stay at the Glebe. She is now reunited with Jim, where they once again walk together in the light of the Lord.
She is survived by her children, Deb (Bill) Dreger and Jim (Greta) Harrison; grandchildren, Lyndsey (Rob) St.George, Billy Dreger, Katie (JP) Gavin, Nia Harrison, and Yassy Harrison; and great-grandson, Aaren Wilton.
A private graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Contributions honoring Virginia can be made in her name to
