Vivian B. Wertz, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 23, 2021 in Asheville, North Carolina. Vivian was born on August 9, 1928 in Roanoke, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Lester A. Bare and Grace D. Bare and also preceded in death by brothers Fred and Boyd Bare. Vivian graduated from Troutville High School and then Jefferson School of Nursing in Lynchburg, Va. where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. Her career began as a night supervisor at the Jefferson Hospital, head nurse for the Troutville Clinic, county health nurse for Craig County before retiring as night supervisor at the VA Medical Center in Salem and was also a longtime and faithful member of Troutville Baptist Church. Vivian was always available to anyone in need, especially her sons and any friends needing rides after football practices. She loved her boys, her dogs and fishing....not always in that order.

Mrs. Wertz is survived by her sons, Dennis Wertz and wife, Mary Alice and Dean Wertz and wife, Karen; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd, Roanoke, VA 24019. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery,11475 Lee Hwy, Fincastle, VA 24090, with the Rev. Carol Johnston officiating.
