I would like to thank you for the courage and bravery that was instilled in Danny. I have been lucky enough to say that I have met Danny on a few ocassions. With every time that I had seen him one thing had never changed, he was always smiling. He looked like the kind of person that loved life and every person in it. I was boating at Smith Mountain Lake with my husband and heard about the accident. When we went out the town was talking about the accident and the love they had for Mr. Altice was awesome. You could feel the love the town has for their firemen. My prayers are with your family.

I am a stranger to you, but I am not, I am the mother of a firefighter, I once asked recently, Son, why do you do this? why do you worry me so, taking care of others before yourself, it scares me sometimes...his response was so sweet and so simple: Mom, I do what you taught me to do...wow...my prayers and thoughts are with this family, and I have shed many a tear, but our tears are rain from heaven and that is where he is.....know that he is with his creator as I know that is where mine will be on that same day...

It was my honor today has a dispatcher to give Danny his last and final call. I have toned Danny on many calls and prayed for his safe return. I toned him today for the last time where I know he is safe and will have eternal happiness. Thank you for sharing Danny with us and letting us be a part of his life. He will be greatly missed.

I am so saddened by the news of Danny passing away. He, Francis Amos and I were a trio like the "Three Musketeers" all the way through high school. We did everything together, including playing in the Franklin County High School Band for four years. My prayers will be with Danny's family. Life can be so short. I will truly miss seeing him at our 50th high school reunion next year. May God bless and be with his family through this trying time.

I met him as a student serving as the president of the FCHS Class of 1987, when he so generously allowed the use of his property so that we could build a float for the Homecoming parade. Although we never met until that night I thought would never come, I loved your father like he was my own. I thought the world of Danny, he was very good to me from the start. I would talk to him for hours, he was full of stories, jokes, and knowledge. I will never forget Danny as a man who was a fire fighter, truck driver or a strong hearted gentle kinded old man.
