Winfred Henry Hart Jr., 100, a resident of Roanoke, Va., died on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

He was the husband of Lois Camden Hart who predeceased him.

Mr. Hart was born in Nace, Virginia, near Troutville, on May 1, 1921. He was the son of Winfred Henry Hart Sr. and Kathleen Crawford Hart. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School and VPI, Class of 1950, majoring in Electrical Engineering. Both Mr. Hart and his wife worked for over 30 years for Appalachian Power Company until retiring in 1982.

During World War II, Mr. Hart was a radio operator for the bomber crew of a B-24 Liberator which was part of the 8th Air Force, 466th Bomb Group. During most of World War II the 466th was stationed at Attlebridge, England, a point where the Allies could conduct bombing missions over occupied Europe.

Following retirement, he and his wife traveled all over the world. Both were photographers and shared their trips with local civic clubs, organizations, and schools. Mr. Hart was a violinist with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra for over thirty-five years.

Mr. Hart was a member of the Photography Society of America, the Labac Group (local stock investing group), an advisor to Junior Achievement, the Electrical Engineering Society, and other organizations associated with his interests. He spent several years conducting genealogy research. He also had an interest in geology and belonged to the Gem and Mineralogy Society.

He is survived by two nieces and four nephews, Sharon Hart Stull of Richmond, Ann Woodahl Long of Richmond, Tony and Neil Hart of Roanoke, John Woodahl of Richmond, and Dennis Carson of West Lafayette, Indiana. Michael Carson, another nephew, is deceased.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at Sherwood Memorial Park with Randy Pizzino officiating. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.oakeys.com.
