Elwood Dale Davis
RICHARDSON, TEXAS — Elwood Dale Davis, was born July 7, 1929, in Lumberton, N.C., and passed away March 10, 2016, in Richardson, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ambrose and Florence Davis; his sisters, Wilma Rozier, Elizabeth Kinlaw, Theda Davis, and Natalie Leggett.
Survived by his wife of 66 years, Luella Nowell Davis; his daughters, Marsha Claytor and Evelyn Law (husband Gary); a son, Terry Davis (wife Dena); his granddaughters, Shannon Roberts (husband Brian), Haven Claytor, Jordan Claytor; his great-granddaughter, Lauren Roberts; a sister, Nella Weaver; and his brothers, Stacey Davis (wife Gracie) and Bruce Davis (wife Donna).
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Chapel at Heights Baptist Church, Richardson Texas.

Dr. Davis was an honor graduate of Campbell University (AA), Wake Forest University (BA), and The University of North Carolina (Med, DEd). He was awarded a Kellogg Scholarship award, State of N.C. grant and was a member of Epsilon Pi Eta, Phi Delta Kappa, National Association of Secondary School Principals, PDK Ministerial Honor Society. He published 49 articles in national educational publications, three textbooks, and two books on religion. He worked for 36 years at Southern Methodist University, where he retired in 1995. Prior to coming to Texas, he pastored three churches, taught school, served as a Principal and Basketball coach in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina.
