GEORGE D. LOCKLEAR
FAYETTEVILLE — George Datra Locklear, 67, of the Union Chapel Community, entered into his heavenly home to enjoy eternal health and peace on May 21, 2017, at Autumn Care Nursing Center of Fayetteville, with his beloved and devoted wife and family at his side.
Prior to becoming catastrophically disabled, George was a dedicated worker as an electrician and later concluded his employment at Dupont Fayetteville Works as a Buticite Technician and onsite EMT. George was passionate about serving his country and community and did so in multiple roles in the U.S. Army, and as a volunteer fireman with Burnt Swamp Philadelphus Fire Department for more than 14 years. He was a Union Chapel T-ball and Little League coach, and was a tutor at Union Elementary School. He loved and served God, his family and his country.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday at Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church with the Rev. Dufrene Cummings and the Rev. Sylvia Collins-Ball officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
George is preceded in death by a daughter, Monica Locklear Velazquez; his parents, Merlin and Rosie Locklear; a brother, Jessie Willard Locklear; a sister Ruth Locklear Revels; among other relatives.
George leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Rose Locklear of the home; a son, George Adam Locklear of Cary; a daughter, Alyssa Nicole Locklear (Jamie) of Stedman; six grandchildren; six sisters, Janice Mason, Phoda Locklear, Carolyn Locklear, Foncine Collier, Maxine Oxendine, Charity Revels; four brothers, Cooledge Locklear, Bradley Locklear, Jimmy Locklear, Dwayne Locklear; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Burnt Swamp Philadelphus Fire Department.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. on Friday at the church prior to the funeral service.
Services are entrusted to Revels Funeral Home Lumberton.

Uncle George you are at PEACE now. No more pain and sorrow. God came put his hands on you and took you home. You are now with your daughter Monica Velazquez, parents Rosie and Merlin Locklear and nephew Mayor Locklear.
