John Locklear Jr.
LUMBERTON — Mr. John Locklear Jr., 82, of 84 Sun Road, was born July 23, 1933 and departed his life on July 21, 2016, to his heavenly home.
He was the son of the late John and Annie Pearl Freeman Locklear. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marie Jones Locklear; two sons, Carrol and Johnny and a stepson James Ray; a great-grandchild, Megan; a sister, Verdie Mae and four brothers, Velton, Norman, Willard and Spencer.
Mr. Locklear (also known as JJ) worked for the city of Lumberton for 17 years until his retirement. He was a faithful member of The Rock Church of God.
He is survived by three sons, Billy Locklear (Jacqueline), Mike Locklear (known as Smitty), Dwayne Locklear (Wendy) all of Lumberton; two sisters, Clara Bell Scott and Chestine Jones of Lumberton; two brothers, Brady and Grady Locklear of Lumberton; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at The Rock Church of God, 2209 W. Carthage Road, Lumberton, the Rev. Dr. David Whitey, the Rev. Roosevelt Scott and the Rev. Lesaundri Hunt will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oxendine Cemetery on Rennert Road.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at The Rock Church of God before the service. Arrangements are by Revels Funeral Home Lumberton.
