Kimberly Jones
LUMBERTON — Kimberly Jonita Jones, daughter of Vertie H. Jones and the late John D. Jones was born March 16, 1966, in Lumberton. She entered into eternal rest on May 18th, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Kim was a passionate advocate for poor, disenfranchised and forgotten people. She fought hard for fairness and equality for all people of Robeson County. She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. and the North Carolina State Bar Association. Kimberly was a lawyer for the people, for over 20 years. The lead partner in her own successful law firm, she focused her legal efforts on reuniting families and creating new families through the powerful and positive force of adoption. She was currently the Attorney for the Robeson County Housing Authority of Lumberton, as well as the Attorney for Robeson County Department of Social Services.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband of nine years, Michael Powell; a cherish son, John Michael Jones-Powell of the home; a devoted mother, Vertie H. I am a citizen of Lumberton and served on the Housing Authority Board of Directors in excess of 7 years. During this period of time, Attorney Kimberly J. Jones, served as Attorney to the Board and what a learning experience that was. She was a silent professional who loved her community and those she worked with and all mankind. She lived out the true meaning of words such as humanitarian, a professional, a Christian and a people person. She was kind, gentle, astute, soft-spoken but exacting and convincing in speech and actions. I never saw her display anger with others who lacked experience, intellect or time to make right anything that was wrong. Our Public Housing Authority, and others with HUD are the better because of her professionalism and dedication to duty. Our lives should be encouraged to follow the examples of leadership, patience, and humbleness exemplified by Mrs. Kimberly J. Jones. Her family deserves our expressions of sympathy and prayers.

If ever there was a candle to shine into the dark lives and homes of this county, Kim was that light. Her smile, charm, and contagious laugh will forever be missed. May you rest in peace Kim and may the Lord bless your family with comfort at this time. Love u much and will miss you always.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. Although I have never meet Kimberly personally, I truly admired reading about immense faith and passion for the underprivileged. I hope you find strength in knowing that God promises to reward his loyal ones (Malachi 3:16). Please accept my deepest sympathies.

It was so hurtful hearing of the death of my beloved Sister In Christ, Kimberly Jones while here in Las Vegas. I will forever honor the talks and encouragement that you offered and the love that you had for the citizen and students in particular of Robeson County. My sincere prayer and condolences to the Jones-Powell family!
