Lloyd E. Walters, 92, of Rochester, and formerly of Akron passed at 11:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at his residence in Wynnfield Crossing.
Lloyd was born March 27, 1931 in Fulton County, to the late Harold and Irene (McGriff) Walters. He was a 1949 graduate of Akron High School. He was married on July 18, 1980, in Athens, to Linda L. Butt, who preceded him in death on April 7, 2023.
His first job was at the Sale Barn in Rochester. Also in earlier years, he drove a semi truck for Sonoco Products and Dean Foods. He later became the manager for Kaiser Chemical of Athens and retired from Kaiser/Vigoro Fertilizer of Mentone in 1996. Lloyd also loved farming and driving a school bus for both Akron and Rochester Schools for many years.
He attended church in both Athens and Rochester and had been on the trustee board for the Athens Church and the Athens Cemetery. He was a member of Farm Bureau since 1952 and an active member of RSVP. He enjoyed bus trips to numerous places with friends. Lloyd also enjoyed the companionship of his Yorkies over the years.
He is survived by his daughters Diane Anspach of Logansport, Brenda Downs of Rochester, Natalie and husband Dr. Francisco Negreros of Ava Maria, Fla.; son Michael Joe and wife Pat Walters of Claypool and Perry Walters of Westfield; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Ann Deaton of Bourbon.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda, son-in-laws John Anspach and Jimmy Downs, a sister Kathryn and her husband Stephen Hartzler, brothers infant Richard Walters and Herschel Walters, and brother-in-law George Deaton.
A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, in the Rochester I.O.O.F Cemetery. A brief committal will take place for Lloyd and Linda at the conclusion of the graveside service.
The arrangements have been entrusted to Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, Indiana.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Northern Indiana Community Foundation to the fund of the donor's choosing.
