Bruce Martin Thompson of Conyers, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023. He was 70 years old.
Bruce was born September 16, 1952, to parents of Gerald and Doris Thompson. He was the oldest of seven children. Bruce was born and raised in Louisville, KY. He attended St. Frances of Rome School and Trinity High School and graduated in 1970. While attending high school, Bruce worked various jobs. He was a newspaper carrier for the Courier Journal and Louisville Times. He had several grass cutting jobs for neighbors. He worked at Kinney's Shoe Store selling shoes. He also drove a truck for Pepsi-Cola.
Not long after graduating high school Bruce moved to GA and worked for a dairy company known at the time as Borden's Dairy. He worked there delivering dairy products to several businesses in GA. While he was working for Borden's he went to HVAC School and received his certification for HVAC & Air, and worked on freezers, refrigerators and the like. Soon afterwards Bruce started his own business and named it AccuAir & Refrigeration. Bruce did HVAC work until he officially retired around 2018.
Bruce had so many hobbies. He loved fishing, especially some of the fishing trips he took to Canada with his dad, brothers and cousins. He loved wine making, beer stein collecting, cookouts, gardening, card games, going to family burgoo cookouts in Owensboro, sausage making with cousins. He was full of life and energy for family and friend get-togethers.
Preceding him in death are his father, Gerald, his brother, Darrell, and nephew, Jason.
Bruce leaves behind his mother, Doris, of Louisville, KY; brothers Mark of Louisville, KY; Alan (Meg) of Louisville, KY; David (Franzine) of Taylorsville, KY; Glen (Karen) of Brandenburg, KY; and a sister, Diane of Louisville, KY.
He also leaves behind his extended family, ex-wife Mary Thompson of Conyers, GA; step-son Adam (Debbie) Hammonds of Conyers, GA; and step-daughter Marcia (Brian) Kennelly of Covington, GA; step-grandchildren Ashley (Michael) DeAngelo, Colin Kennelly, Mackenzie Kennelly and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins from Kentucky, Georgia and around the country.
We will miss him terribly, especially his beautiful smile, large bright blue eyes, and contagious laughter. May his soul and body rest in peace until we see him again.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Monastic Heritage Center, 2625 Highway 212, SW, Conyers, GA, 30094, Tuesday, September 5, 2023, from 1:00 to 4:00. A burial service will be held at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, KY. Date and time TBD.
