Elsa Leon Obituary

On January 16, 2024, Elsa Jesus Guevara León, lost her battle with esophageal cancer. She passed shortly after her 64th birthday peacefully at her home in Conyers, Georgia, while surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her two sons, Nefi Jacob Campbell and Jonathan Rey León, and father Maximo Guevara. She is survived by her husband, Reynaldo León, and children, Melissa Yvette DeLong, Joshua Kirk Campbell, Vanessa Jeanette León, Klarissa Annette Hanni, and Rey Allen Maximo León. Elsa Leon , was born in Lima, Peru, on December 29, 1959. She was the only surviving daughter out of four existing children. She is survived by three brothers, Carlos Guevara, Cesar, Guevara, and Jaime Guevara, as well as her mother Gumercinda Bocanegra de Guevara. Elsa came to the United States, unable to speak the language left behind a legacy of accomplishments: she was an amazing High School Spanish teacher at Towers High School in Decatur, Georgia, being awarded Teacher of the Year multiple times, Head of the the World Language Department, and instructing both gifted as well as ESOL classrooms. She was nominated for Who's Who Among Teachers of America. She held multiple degrees in Education such as a Masters of Education and was working her way to a PhD. Not only did she excel in the field of Education, but she also made an impact on the community, volunteering at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, of which she belonged to. She and her husband spent several devoted years helping create and lead the Yellow River Spanish Branch there. Along with her successes in education and volunteer work, she was known for being a local Hispanic-owned business woman by running multiple rental properties in town. There was nothing she couldn't accomplish and was never afraid to start a new adventure. She blessed the lives of everyone she came in contact with. She was deeply loved and will be terribly missed. If you would like to pay your respects, you are welcome to attend the memorial we are holding in her honor at Scot Ward Memorial 699 American Legion Rd NE Conyers, GA 30012, on January 26th from 6 - 8 PM. The funeral services will be held at 11 am on January 27th, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1275 Flat Shoals Rd., Conyers, GA 30013.

A Servant of Christ: A Legacy of Love

A Daughter, Sister, Mother, Friend and Colleague; Elsa excelled in them all. A true servant of Christ who accepted the call. The call to live a life for Christ.

Her face would light up like the sun on a hot day; when she spoke of her family, true love on display.

In her classroom, she taught with exceptional love and joy; enriching the life of every girl and boy.

A lifestyle of service to others, "We are the hands of Christ." Seeking to serve others in peace and love, despite the sacrifice.

Some seek fortune, some seek fame; the greatest wealth is a life lived in the Savior´s name.

Elsa walked out her faith by living a life of kindness, compassion, peace, joy and love. This is Elsa´s Legacy, ordained by Christ from above.

Love Conquers All
Continue Elsa´s Legacy of Love

Deepest Condolences,
Andie C. Derricho,
Colleague
