Gene Hoertz

Gene Grace Brill Hoertz of Conyers, GA, age 100, died Friday, March 8, 2024 at home with her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold C. Brill and Helen Leber Brill; her husband of 62 years, Edwin Brandt Hoertz, her brother, Edward Brill, her sister, Lily May (Patsy) Brill, and her infant great grandson, Christian Jacob Conner. She is survived by her daughters, Jean Hoertz Garrison (Jim), Barbara Hoertz Conner, Deborah Hoertz Snyder (Steve); eight grandchildren: Lesley Garrison Kinney (Kevin), Brandt Garrison (Krissy), Daniel Garrison (Abbie); SFC Christopher Conner (Cindy), Kimberly Conner Waters (Terry), Laurie Snyder (Fernando Romero), Ben Snyder, Genie Snyder Self (Kyle); and twelve great-grandchildren, Alex Kinney, Logan Garrison, Brianna Conner, Ian Conner, Christopher Conner, Nathan Waters, Nicholas Waters, Natalie Waters, Jan Snyder, Alexa Romero, Alexavier Romero and Zachary Self.

Gene was born on December 23, 1923 in Springfield, New Jersey and graduated from Springfield High School. As an avid quilter, Gene enjoyed being a member of the Early Bird Quilt Guild for many years. She also enjoyed other hand crafts, including knitting. Another hobby was playing golf, most recently at Honey Creek Country Club. One of her proudest moments was making a hole-in-one at Spessard Holland Golf Course in Melbourne Beach, FL. She loved snowy winters and traveling. She and Ed enjoyed several cruises and especially a trip to Costa Rica. She was the founding Queen Mother of the Red Hat Sophisticates in Conyers. She was a former member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church, and prior to her death an active member of Crosspoint Christian Church.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2024 in the Chapel at Crosspoint Christian Church. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. The church is located at 4550 Hwy 20 SE Conyers, GA 30094. Interment will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.
