Michael Roshek Obituary

Michael William Roshek 1943- 2022 Michael William Roshek (9/3/43-2/27/22) was a loving father, grandfather, devoted husband, and a civil engineer for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). He was quick with a joke, loved to read, garden, cook for others, and always had the door open for cocktail hour. He was born in Fort Reilly, Kansas and grew up in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He played many sports including baseball, basketball, and had a football scholarship to the University of Utah, and played in the Liberty Bowl in 1964. He was always both a proud Rock Springs Tiger, and Utah Ute.

He spent his 29-year career at UDOT designing and constructing roads, bridges, and highways. He was particularly proud of his work with Vitro Chemical Remedial Action Project making the environment safer for all.

Mike was active in the Freemasonry and Shriners International. He epitomized the phrase: making good men, better. He was a Master Mason and Past Master of his Blue Lodge, a member of both York and Scottish Rite, Past Potentate (twice) of El Kalah Shriners in Salt Lake City, Past President of Western Shrine, served on the board of directors for the Intermountain Shrine Hospital in Salt Lake City and was awarded emeritus member status on the Shrine Hospital Board.

He married the love of his life, Cheri, on August 13, 1976 and they raised three children together: Christy, Diana, and Tim. In retirement, he loved to garden and entertain others in his summer house in Salt Lake City, Utah and later in Mead, Washington; and spent his winters in sunny Yuma, Arizona where he played golf, darts, cards, water aerobics, and loved cooking for the park community.

He is preceded in life by his parents, Alice and William Roshek, and survived by his loving family, his brother Steve Roshek (Sharon), sister Patricia Newbern (Bill), his wife Cheri and their children Christy Miller (Cameron), Diana Johnson (Trevor), and Tim Roshek, and his grandchildren Nicole Miller, Morgan Roshek, Gwendolyn and Alexander Johnson.

Cheri, I have been thinking about you and our fun times at St. Ann and Judge Memorial. And then up pops a newspaper that I don't take anymore with Michael's obituary. I am so sorry for your loss. Perhaps we can chat soon about the past 50 years. I believe when you lived in Spokane I lived in Kennewick WA. My prayers are with you and your family. Take care friend.
