Anna Mae Hartman Hostetler Obituary
Anna Mae Hartman Hostetler 93, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg.
Anna Mae was born in Hinton, VA and was a daughter of Lewis and Grace Good Hartman. She was predeceased by her parents, and her siblings, Harold Hartman, Ruth Weaver, Lewis Perry Hartman, and Paul S. Hartman, and nephew Lee Edward Eshleman.
Anna Mae is survived by her husband of 73 years, John H. (Chick) Hostetler and sister Rosalie Eshleman (Bob). Also surviving are sons Larry Hostetler (Emily), Stanley Hostetler (Lee), Keith Hostetler (Kathy), and special friend 'nearly-adopted daughter' Wanda Revercomb (Mark). Surviving Grandchildren are Jennifer Dierker (Rick), Ryan Hostetler (Krista), Zach Hostetler (Becca), Ben Hostetler, Martin Revercomb, Kaitlyn Hertzler (Josh), Colton Revercomb, and 9 Great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces Rosemary Heatwole (Byard), Nancy Schnider (Jim), Grace McNatt (Charlie), Emily Hartman, Diane Yoder (Kent), Susan Eshleman (Keith), Kendra Schlabaugh (Walter); nephews Frank Hartman (Sharrie), Ed Hartman (Patti), Jerrell Weaver (Wendy), Kenny Weaver (Kathy), Glenn Hartman (Ira), and Curtis Eshleman (Brigetta).
Anna Mae met John in high school (Eastern Mennonite High School Class of 1949) and were married September 12, 1952.
Anna Mae became a Christian at an early age. She loved the Lord and wanted to serve Him. She was active in her church and served in many ways. She served in the Mennonite Women's Organization and held a number of offices. She worked with Books Abroad and also helped to send Sunday School materials to Jamaicia and other places. She started a young Christian mothers group in her home in Elkton called "Heart to Heart" that existed for 13 years.
She enjoyed music and sang at an early age. She and her sister Rosalie sang duets. She was involved in trios, quartets, octets, and all the choruses at Eastern Mennonite High School. She was a charter member of the Valley based "Celebration Singers" for 45 years.
She was active in the community and in the schools and was a life-long member of the P.T.A. She sewed many comforter tops that Elkton Mennonite Women's Group knotted and gave to needy people. She also helped with Meals on Wheels in Elkton.
Anna Mae had a gift of hospitality, and she entertained many people, locally and from other countries, through Elkton Mennonite Church.
She loved to weave baskets and had a wonderful gift of making quilts, many of which were given to her children, grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed flowers and butterflies
Anna Mae and John cherished their Church family at Cornerstone Church of Harrisonburg, and they attended regularly. They especially loved their small Life Group.
As we remember Anna Mae, let us hold close the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the spirit of kindness she embodied. Her light will forever shine in our hearts, guiding us with love and faith until we meet again.
A service celebrating Anna Mae's life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Weaver's Mennonite Church.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 15th from 6 PM - 8 PM at Johnson Funeral and Cremation Service in Bridgewater.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VMRC Compassion Fund in Anna Mae's name.
