Carol Lee Obituary

In Loving Memory of Carol Alice Lee (née Asman) December 10, 1932 – August 25, 2025 Carol Alice Lee, beloved wife, mother, nurse, and community volunteer, passed away after a short illness, following an extended visit by her family. Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio, to Dr. Harold G. Asman and Ruth Asman (née Longbrake), Carol lived a life marked by unconditional love and involvement in her community. Carol was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John L. Asman. She is survived by her devoted husband of 70 years, Harry Lee, with whom she celebrated their milestone anniversary earlier this year. She also leaves behind her daughter, Karen (Bradley Newcomer), her son, John (Steve Christensen), and granddaughter Leanne Newcomer, who carry forward her legacy of kindness. A 1954 graduate of Mt. Carmel School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio, Carol earned her RN degree and began her adult life caring for others. She and Harry lived in Upper Arlington, Ohio for 17 years, where they started their family. After raising two children and one beloved dog, Carol volunteered with the American Red Cross for nearly 20 years, helping organize blood drives to support lifesaving efforts in her community. Carol spent 30 active years living in the South Hills area of Charleston, West Virginia, where she was a member of the Charleston Garden Club and of the altar guild at Trinity Lutheran Church. She found great delight in decorating Christmas trees at the Sunrise Museum each year, bringing beauty and warmth to the community during the holiday season. She also enjoyed musicals and the Charleston Light Opera Guild. In later years, Carol and Harry made their home in the Woodside neighborhood of Aiken, South Carolina, where she continued to cultivate her love of gardening, genealogy, and reading. For the past eight years, Carol and Harry have lived near their daughter, in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Carol loved dogs, flowers, and family stories-especially those woven together through her ongoing genealogical research. The family is grateful for the support of the staff and neighbors at Sunnyside Presbyterian Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Red Cross or your local animal shelter.
