Dixie Dofflemyer Obituary

Dixie Levinson Dofflemyer (86), of Rockingham County, Virginia, went to be with her lord December 18, 2024. She was born September 24, 1938, to the late Louise Chambers Levinson and Samuel Hillman Levinson, at Johns Hopkins Hospital (Maryland). Dixie retired from James Madison University (Office of the Registrar) Emeritus Status. She was a member of the Elkton Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and FCE, among others. She worked closely with Donnie in all aspects of their family businesses, which included Virginia's Distributing, Black Diamond Bank, Hillman's Elkton Restaurant, Shenandoah Flight School, and Swift Run Pool and Campground (where she formed lifelong relationships with many patrons). June 26, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald Lee Dofflemyer (who survives). They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together. Also surviving are a son, Sam Dofflemyer (Mary Ellen); daughters, Jane Dofflemyer Shifflett (Les) and Dawn Dofflemyer Huffman (Jim); eight grandchildren, Meredith Harsh, Cole Shifflett, Billy Dofflemyer, Megan Thompson, Spencer Shifflett, Camryn Arthur, Addie Dofflemyer and Carlee Huffman (also Dixie's caregiver); eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Connie Levinson Cameron, Terry Levinson, Becky Levinson and Rene Levinson Smith (JR); in-laws, Ronnie Dofflemyer (Martha) and Joyce Elaine Dofflemyer Bird (Greg), and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sister, Janice Levinson Vincent and brother, Samuel Levinson. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and amazing "Granny". She will be greatly missed. A private service, for immediate family, will be conducted. A Celebration of Life Service will be held for all (date yet to be determined). When I shared the news of Dixie´s passing with my son, Logan, he immediately started reminiscing about her being such a wonderful "table parent" at LOGOs. To see her with that table of boys made you know how special she was. I´m very sorry for your loss.

I am so very sorry to learn of the loss of this lovely and loving women. Although it has been several years since we last talked, Dixie was always a person that no matter how much time passed, it was like it was just yesterday when we last were together. Dixie was a warm and loving friend that I am so sorry to no longer be with us.

So sorry for your loss.She was loved by many.My mom Ann meadows worked at Hillman´s Restuarant for years.I also worked there too.Always loved to see Dixie come in. So sweet.Loved the whole family.She will be missed by many.Prayers for the family.
