Faye Newton Chapman

Faye Morrow Chapman, 92, of Bridgewater, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025 peacefully of natural causes. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, to Fay Morrow and Frances Gaskins Morrow, Faye was the older of two sisters. Her sister Jean was not only her sister but her very best friend. The two shared a lifelong bond of love and companionship. Faye earned a degree in theology and Greek and, in 1957, married Orville Lamar Chapman. Together they raised two sons, Kenneth and Kevin, in Ames, Iowa. Faye's compassion led her to pursue a degree in nursing in 1975, after which the family moved to Los Angeles, California. Following her divorce in 1979, she returned to Virginia to be near Jean and her husband, Wallace Holthaus, in Harrisonburg. Not long after, she purchased a 40-acre farm in her beloved Highland County, where she lived independently and contentedly until 2022. Faye is survived by her sister, Jean Holthaus; her son, Kevin Chapman and Sheryl Chapman, wife of her late son, Kenneth. Her life was marked by faith, learning, fierce independent thought, and quiet strength. In keeping with Faye's wishes, there will be no formal services.
