Gregory Kramer Obituary

Gregory Thomas "Greg" Kramer, 78, of Harrisonburg, Virginia passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025, at his home of heart disease while under hospice care. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1946 and lived in Harrisonburg, Virginia for over 70 years. He was the oldest son of Mary Rita Meyer Kramer and Elmer Thomas Kramer and was one of eleven children. Gregory is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Betty Jinkins Kramer; children, Steven Kramer (Kate) and Kara Kramer (Jed Caldwell); siblings, Martha Uebelher (Bill), Julia Rader, Larry Kramer (Laura Adkins), Monica Frackelton (David), Ellen Shackelford (Trevor), Tony Kramer (Mary), Joe Kramer (MaryBeth) and Raymond Kramer; parents-in-law, Marlene and Harold Jinkins, sisters-in-law, Marie Post (Tom), Joan Pugh (Scott) and Nancy Jinkins, along with many loved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew Kramer and a sister, Cecelia Phelan. Mr. Kramer graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1966 and proudly served in the United States Army from 1967-1969. For over 40 years, Greg worked at Parts, Inc., an automotive parts business his dad had started, eventually becoming owner and president of the company. He retired in 2010, but soon discovered that he missed working and found part-time work in other automotive related businesses, including Car Quest in Harrisonburg, where he worked for the past ten years, retiring again in February of this year. Greg loved spending time with his family and friends, of whom he had many, and no matter where he traveled, he always ran into someone he knew. He looked forward to beach vacations with his wife, children and various friends of his children, every year and some of his children's favorite stories come from vacations with their dad. Another favorite yearly trip was going back to his roots, in Ohio, with his brothers and children to see the Cincinnati Reds play and visit relatives. Sadly, he had to miss that trip this year, but he was there in spirit and cheered them on from his hospital bed. Greg was a good man, son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend who lived a good life, and he will be missed. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg with Fred LaSpina officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Rockingham Harrisonburg SPCA, PO Box 413 Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
