Joy Joan (Wiseman) "Wiseman" Nies

Joy Joan (Wiseman) Nies, 89, of Rockingham, VA passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at her residence after a long illness. Mrs. Nies was born on April 12 1936 in Harrisonburg, and was a daughter of the late Harry Clinton and Velma Mae (Thompson) Wiseman. After graduating from Dunsmore Business College, Joy worked for Westinghouse for ten years. She later worked for Dunham Bush for 25 years, until her retirement, with keypunch and accounts receivables as two areas of focus during her employment. Mrs. Nies attended Church of Solsburg in Elkton. Her hobbies included cooking and baking and she loved to gather with her family around the table. Gift giving was one of her love languages and as such she loved celebrating birthdays and Christmas in special ways. She loved animals and had a special fondness for dogs. Her pride and joy were her grandsons, Dominic (11) and Daniel (9), whom she loved dearly. She loved to present them with a jar of her homemade chocolate chip cookies, which they were allowed to eat with breakfast, lunch and dinner when visiting Grandma Joy!¬¬¬ On October 16, 1971, she married Bernard "Bernie" Nies who survives. In addition to her husband Joy is survived by her son, Kevin Nies and wife, Melanie of Baltimore, MD; two grandsons, Dominic Nies and Daniel Nies; a brother, David Wisman; a sister, Jane Ann Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Angela Y. Nies; and a brother, Nolan Wisman. A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 4 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg with Pastor Clyde Plum officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3-4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held privately and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the Valley Christian School and Daycare, 14695 Rockingham Pike, Elkton, VA 22827.
