Robert Fitzgerald Smith

Robert Fitzgerald "Bobby" Smith, 61, of Mt. Crawford, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family. Bobby remained resilient for his family and friends throughout his battle with cancer. Mr. Smith was born April 30, 1964, in Rockingham County, and was a son of Emma Lee Switzer of Broadway, Va. and the late Daniel Howard Smith. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Roger Allen Smith. On October 30, 1982, he married Cheryl Diane Lambert. They have two sons, Brandon Smith of Richmond, and Michael Smith (Leah) of Mt. Crawford. Bobby is also survived by a sister, Ronda Shifflett (Monte) of Elkton; father and mother-in-law, Danny and Joann Lambert of Mt. Crawford; brothers-in-law, Daniel Lambert (Naomi) of Harrisonburg, and David Lambert of Buckingham; sister-in-law, April Lambert of Mt. Crawford, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. His joy to his heart was his dog, D.D., and his hobbies that he loved were golfing, hunting, and fishing. He loved riding his motorcycle and participating in innumerable benefit rides. Bobby enjoyed the past five years of retirement following a 35-year career with HRRSA. The family would like to thank the staff of Sentara Hahn Cancer Center, UVA Cancer Center, and Sentara Hospice for their constant compassionate care to both he and his family, always remaining by their side. Per his request, a private graveside service will be conducted at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
