Velma Catherine Turner

Velma Catherine Simmers Turner, 88, of Broadway, passed away October 11, 2025 at her home. She was born October 26, 1936 in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late Ralph Amos and Stella Grace Fitzwater Simmers. Velma had worked at Rockingham Poultry. She was a member of Bethel Church of the Brethren in Mayland. On June 6, 1953 she married Virgil Turner, who preceded her in death on June 23, 2010. Surviving her is a son; Ronnie Turner, of Broadway, three daughters; Loretta Turner, of Broadway, Gail Griffith and husband Mike, of Timberville, Jennifer Turner (Roe), of Timberville, a grandson; Wes Turner, of Linville, a great grandson; Wesley Turner, of Broadway, numerous nieces and nephews, a special niece; Elaine Sacra, a special friend and helper; Stephanie Fittry and a grand-dog; Katy. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Lawrence, Nelson, Carroll Simmers, two sisters; Kathleen Whetzel, Arlene Kile and an infant brother; Beverly Simmers. Pastor Tim Ball will conduct a graveside service on Thursday at 2 PM at Bethel Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Mayland. Friends may view and sign a guestbook on Wednesday from 9 AM- 7 PM at the Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway. The family will greet friends from 5 PM - 6 PM.
