Francis Milner McCullough

Francis Milner McCullough, age 107, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, formerly a resident of Decatur, Georgia, passed away at his home on November 26, 2015.

He was born in Talbotton, Georgia on September 11, 1908. His parents were The Rev. Francis Milner McCullough, Sr. of Blountville, Georgia and Frances Octavia Holloway of Durham, North Carolina. His early years were spent in several small towns in middle and south Georgia. In 1930, he went to Washington, D.C. and entered a forty year career with the Federal Government, first with the Federal Bureau of Investigations and later with the Civil Service investigative branch. He retired from the Civil Service as the Southeast Regional Director.

In 1949, he was married to Sarah Frances Greer and enjoyed sixty years of a happy marriage with her until her death in 2010. Following Sarah's death, he moved to Rocky Mount to be closer to the family of Frank and Notie Vay Meadows, and his other North Carolina cousins. The friends that this remarkable man made in the local area are numerous.

Survivors include Mary Cheeseman, who was a caregiver for approximately sixteen years of first Sarah and then Francis. Other survivors include numerous cousins and in-laws in Georgia and the Carolinas, but no immediate family members.

The family is most appreciative of the care given to Francis by Doctor Martha Chestnut of Boice-Willis Clinic.

Interment will be adjacent to the burial site of his beloved wife at Prosperity Cemetery in Chamblee, Georgia. The Rev. Doctor Randy Ruble, the retired President of Erskine College and Seminary, will officiate. The local family plans to have a memorial service in Rocky Mount. As soon as plans are completed, the numerous friends that Francis has made since moving here will be advised.
