I knew Joe for 20+ years and he and I were best friends from high school until his untimely death. Along with the contributions of many others I have created a website in tribute to his life and legacy. Please visit it when you have a chance and feel free to contact me should you want to share your own memories or photos and I will post them to the site.

Joe was a great friend of mine and we spent much of high school & his first year of college hanging out together, he was simply part of our family. Joe and I ran together after school for years and I have missed all the debates and introductions to new music. I will really miss Joe and was blessed to have caught back up with him the past few years through our HS Fantasy F-Ball league. Jackie, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Joe was a good friend of mine at Hampden-Sydney; we shared many fun and wild times together. Although I have not spoken to Joe in many years, I think of ole Joey ZaZa often. I am deeply saddened by this news and will miss him greatly.

I went to high school at Cox with Joe and we had a few classes together. Joe was a festive guy who always made people laugh. He will be missed. I am so sorry to hear of his early passing.

Joe will be dearly missed. Spent a lot of time with him in Richmond at school, work and bars. We argued about everything and he told you what thought. Can't say that about many people. We once thought about going to Halloween parties as the knight and death from "The Seventh Seal" to play chess. We settled on the French Resistance, and Joe attached a plastic rat to his shoulder all night, forcing the rat to smoke and speak with a funny accent. I will miss him.

It is hard to say anything about a friend you owe 20+ years of your life's memories, the way you talk and the jokes you tell. I'll miss him, that's about all I can say.

I just heard this evening about the passing of Joe from a friend who used to work with him. I only was aquainted with Joe for a short time about a year ago, but he left a lasting impression on me as someone who was able to turn a small talk situation into a meaningful, genuine, fulfilling conversation.
With deep sympathy for Joe's family and close friends-
