Joseph Kraemer Obituary

"To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die."

–Thomas Campbell

On Saturday, April 26, 2008, Joe Kraemer left us here on earth, but he will continue to live on in our hearts. Joe loved listening to music of all kinds, reading literature, watching the New York Mets and New York Giants, and debating with anyone who would take an opposing side. Most of all, though, he loved his family and his many, many friends.

Joe was born January 5, 1972, in Tarrytown, New York. He attended Frank W. Cox High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he graduated in 1990. He then went on to Hampden -Sydney College in Farmville, Virginia, and continued his education at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, where he graduated with a degree in Political Science.

Joe sincerely missed his parents, Barbara and Frank Kraemer, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents Grace and Joseph Iadarola, and Francis X. Kraemer, Sr. Now, his sister, Jacqueline Kraemer, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, is left to sincerely miss him. Other family members left to cherish his memory are his grandmother, Irene Kraemer of West Babylon, New York, aunts: Mary Lou (Tom) Martin of Eastport, New York, Claire Barabash of West Babylon, New York, Joan (Harold) Cain of West Islip, New York, Rosemary (Gerard) Murphy of Brooklyn, New York; uncles: Tom (Lisa) Kraemer of Le Havre, France, Kevin Kraemer of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Dennis Kraemer of Coventry, Connecticut, special cousins: Bobby and Joanne Gaglione of Pawling, New York, and many other cousins who loved Joe very much.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Cremation Society of Virginia in Richmond. A graveside gathering in New York with family and friends will be scheduled at a later time. In lieu of flowers, please send condolences to Jacqueline Kraemer at [email protected] or please send donations to a charity of your choice.

I knew Joe for 20+ years and he and I were best friends from high school until his untimely death. Along with the contributions of many others I have created a website in tribute to his life and legacy. Please visit it when you have a chance and feel free to contact me should you want to share your own memories or photos and I will post them to the site.

Joe was a great friend of mine and we spent much of high school & his first year of college hanging out together, he was simply part of our family. Joe and I ran together after school for years and I have missed all the debates and introductions to new music. I will really miss Joe and was blessed to have caught back up with him the past few years through our HS Fantasy F-Ball league. Jackie, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Joe was a good friend of mine at Hampden-Sydney; we shared many fun and wild times together. Although I have not spoken to Joe in many years, I think of ole Joey ZaZa often. I am deeply saddened by this news and will miss him greatly.

I went to high school at Cox with Joe and we had a few classes together. Joe was a festive guy who always made people laugh. He will be missed. I am so sorry to hear of his early passing.

Joe was one that made everyone his friend and at ease. I havent seen him in many years but he is one that you never forget!

We went to Cox together.

My deepest sympathy to the family.

Joe will be dearly missed. Spent a lot of time with him in Richmond at school, work and bars. We argued about everything and he told you what thought. Can't say that about many people. We once thought about going to Halloween parties as the knight and death from "The Seventh Seal" to play chess. We settled on the French Resistance, and Joe attached a plastic rat to his shoulder all night, forcing the rat to smoke and speak with a funny accent. I will miss him.

It is hard to say anything about a friend you owe 20+ years of your life's memories, the way you talk and the jokes you tell. I'll miss him, that's about all I can say.

I just heard this evening about the passing of Joe from a friend who used to work with him. I only was aquainted with Joe for a short time about a year ago, but he left a lasting impression on me as someone who was able to turn a small talk situation into a meaningful, genuine, fulfilling conversation.

With deep sympathy for Joe's family and close friends-
